Is Gears of War: E-Day Coming to PS5? Xbox Exclusive Status Explained

Last checked: October 4, 2026. Gears of War: E-Day is an Xbox console exclusive, which means Xbox has not announced a PlayStation 5 version. It is also coming to PC through Xbox on PC and Steam, so “console exclusive” does not mean Xbox-console-only.

Is Gears of War: E-Day coming to PS5?

As of October 4, Xbox’s published platform list includes Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam. Xbox described the game as an Xbox console exclusive during its June 7, 2026 Games Showcase recap and said these exclusives are not timed exclusives. No PS5 release has been announced in the official material cited below. This describes what is confirmed today; it does not establish what Microsoft might decide in the future.

Release date and early access

The standard release is scheduled for October 6, 2026. The Coalition’s September 17 gold announcement says Premium Edition players can start early access on October 1, up to five days ahead. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers join on the standard release date. Xbox lists the same platforms—Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam—and day-one access through those Game Pass tiers.

In other words, if you are asking whether you need an Xbox console, no: the PC version is also confirmed. If you are asking about PlayStation, there is no announced PS5 version to buy or pre-order at the time of this update.

What is confirmed about the game?

Developed by The Coalition, E-Day is an origin story set during Emergence Day, the Locust invasion that begins the conflict at the heart of the series. Xbox’s showcase recap featured the first gameplay demo and a developer-led presentation about the story and gameplay. The official release notes also confirm the game reached “gold,” meaning the release build had completed development before final launch preparations.

Campaign and multiplayer options

The Xbox Store lists a solo campaign and local two-player split-screen on console, as well as online co-op for up to four. Multiplayer includes Horde Siege, a cooperative PvE mode, and 4v4 Versus. The listing also advertises Xbox cross-platform multiplayer and co-op. That gives players a useful platform distinction: the PC release is confirmed, but local split-screen is listed for console only.

Xbox states that online campaign co-op, Horde Siege, Versus and other multiplayer features require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer; subscriptions are sold separately. Its product page lists 4K resolution and up to 60 frames per second across campaign and multiplayer, with a compatible display required. These are publisher-listed features, not a performance benchmark for every platform or graphics setting.

The earlier version of this article included an alleged statement from Matt Booty, supposed internal financial logs, detailed rendering and physics claims, and unconfirmed gameplay systems. We could not substantiate those claims in the official sources, so they have been removed. Xbox did announce a broad organizational reset in July, but its public statement does not say E-Day’s exclusivity or technical design was caused by mobile strategy changes.
