GTA 6 Animals: 170+ Species, Confirmed Wildlife and Rarities

GTA 6 animals are set to include more than 170 species across land, air and sea, according to a new Game Informer report based on Rockstar Games developer interviews. Here is what the report confirms, and what it still does not tell us about wildlife in Leonida.

What animals are confirmed in GTA 6?

The report names Florida wildlife that appears in the game, including flamingos, manatees, pelicans and alligators. It also identifies green iguanas, cane toads, feral cats and rhesus macaques among the invasive animals that fit Leonida’s Florida-inspired setting.

That list is not a complete roster. Rockstar and Game Informer have not published the names of all 170-plus species, so any longer list circulating online should be checked against the original reporting before being treated as confirmed.

How GTA 6 wildlife is being presented

Rockstar is building on its work in the Red Dead Redemption series, according to the report. The described visual features include iridescence, bioluminescence and translucency, different feather types, and new hair and fur systems for coats and pelts.

Those are details about how animals can look. They do not, by themselves, confirm a particular hunting, crafting or collection system in GTA 6. Rockstar has not explained in public how players will interact with each species.

Rare, Discoverable and Legendary animals

The report says some animals will be categorized as Rare, Discoverable or Legendary. Rockstar has not revealed which species belong to those groups or how players find them. For now, the labels confirm that wildlife discovery is part of the game’s animal design, but they do not establish specific missions, rewards or mechanics.

What we still do not know

• The full list of animal species and how the “over 170” total is divided;
• which animals are Rare, Discoverable or Legendary;
• whether animals can be tracked, photographed, hunted or collected, and what those actions would unlock;
• whether wildlife behavior changes with weather, time of day or player activity.

Release date and platforms

Rockstar currently lists Grand Theft Auto VI for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The company’s official GTA VI page is the primary source for release and platform updates.
